A man by the name of P. Howard, has been arrested at Ingersoll, Texas, ten miles from Texarkana, and identi-tied as one of the men who robbed the train Monday night. Sheriff Hays, of Dickinson. North Dakota, has captured one of the train robbers who held up the North Pacific train near New Salem last Sunday. Wallace Back, secretary of the Pa-cific paving oompany of San Francis-eo. who disappeared March 13, is said to have left a shortage in his accounts of between $10,000 and $12,000. The official statement of the Atchi-son, including the Frisco system and one-half of the Atlantic and Pacific, shows gross earnings of $3,261,792; increase, $425,378; net earnings, $934,477: increase, $204,567. Ap-proximate statement for May: Gro»s earnings, $3,587,036; increase, $832,- 475. Exhibition Drill—Railroad Nawa. Special to the New*. Weatherford, June 12.—The Frontier Guards gave an exhibition drill in this city to-day. The Methodist College commence-ment exercises commenced this morn-ing and will end to-night. A large crowd in attendance. Col. H. M. Taylor, general manager and W. H. Boss, Gulf, Brazos Valley and Pacific railroad, are in town at-tending to business about the road coming here. The necessary papers were signed last night by which the Duval Iron Works, of Zanesville, O., will move their plant here. They employ over 250 men and manufacture boilers, en-gines, sawmills, ete. The loss by fire at Pottsboro y ester-day was ovei $30,000. All suspicious characters are watched closely. The trustees of the Austin and Fe-male colleges decided to-day to expend over $10,000 in additions to the col-leges. Gustave Cook passed through here yesterday and made an appointment-for June 28. Proposed Memorial. Middlerboro, Ky., June 11.—One of the most unique memorials ever proposed for a dead hero is now being discussed here. It consists of the erection by Grand Army men and ex- Confederate soldiers, acting in con-cert, of gigantic statues of their res-pective leaders in the civil war, Grant and Lee, on two mountain peaks over-looking Cumberland Gap. The bold-ness and originality of the scheme reu-der it very fasoinating to the veterans, and although no decided move has been made as yet, there is a strong and growing- sentiment among them to undertake it. Baylor University. Annual anniversary begins at 8:30 o’clock p. m. to-morrow night in Uni-versity chapel. The first public exer-cise will be the exhibition of the pre-paratory department under the super-vision of Prof. D. T. Winston and Misses Emma Culbertson and Lula Brooks. The exercises will consist in speeches, compositions, coloquys, etc. All patrons and friends cordially in-vited. All arc desired to' see what splendid progress our preparatory de-partment is making. Business Change. The saloon known as the Congress Saloon has changed hands, Mr. Joe Levy having sold his interest in said establishment to Mr. A. Dean, who will from the 7th of this month, pay all debts contracted bv the saloon and collect all bills made since that date. Mr. Dean will spire no pains to sus-tain the very excellent reputation which the saloon has hitherto enjoyed. Park Theatre. The Jennie Calef eompany will pre- S3nt the “Little Detective” to-night at the Park Theatre. Miss.Calef will assume the roll of the little detective and will charm the audience with some brilliant acting. -■— - - * -*»*- a - . A wrecking company has secured from the Unit d States government the exclusive right to search for the wreck of the British vessel De Braak, which was lost on the Delaware coast in 1798. About $10,000,000 is said to be in the bold of the vessel. About fifteen additional enumera-tors have been employed by the Chamber of Commerce at Fort Worth to boost up t^eir population. It is claimed that those appointed by the government were numerically insuffi-oient. A monster raft 1,700 feet long is to be launched at St. John, N. B., short-ly. If the trip is successful It will he a great savipg to the lumber men as there is $2 duty per 1,000 feet on irn-ported lumber, and logs float in free.
