ToWW Lang, Worthy Master State Grange Pa-tronsof Husoandry, Austin Texas: Your Committee to whom was re-ferred the preamble in the proposed changes to the Conetition, alter a lull discussion ol the subject,were una-ble to make a unanimous report. Therefore, we the undersigned not being fully satisfied, that the inters est of our Order would be advanced or the harmony of our Subordinate Granges promoted by the adoption of Sec. II of said preamble and de-siring the matter more fully discussed we beg leave to submit the following majority report: 1. We recommend the adoption ot the first section, being eminently just and proper. 2. Wo Velieve that the second seci. tion tends too much towards central-ization and is calculated to create dis-sasisfaction among Subordinate Granges by depriving them of the power to administer their own afftirs Therefore we recommend that it do not pass. Resolved, That the board of Edu-cation, for the State of Texas, be res quested, to consider the propriety ©f adopting in the public schools of this State, more extended practical courses of instruction embracing nat-natural, science the elementary pnn-clples of commercial exchange and equity, and especially a course in Agncultuial Chemistry, wherein the future producers of the common-wealth, may be fully taught, the constitutent properties of the differ-ent soils, the mean* of change aud improvement, by mechanical or chem-. ical agencies; the organic constitution of cereals, aud the physeology of veg-etation, as well as the immediate re-lation of production, to the necessities, health, happiness and wealth of man. The following resolution was intro-duced by Worthy Lecturer J. W. Jennings : Resolved, That all business be now suspended and that we proceed to or* ganize a State Grange. The Worthy Master decided the resolution out of order, stating that the permanent organization of a State Grange would be complete and perfect upon the instalation of the officers elect, and that by tbe authority of the M ister of the National Grange, it is usual to consider the first State Gtange srganization temporary. The remainder of the evening was occupied in the discussion of a varie« ty of subjects pertinent to the inter-ests of the Order, and at 5 p. m. State Grange took rest until Saturday morning, 8 A" m.
