VOLUME I NUMBER 11 JUNE 22, 1977
OSWALD: DOUBLE OR NOTHING by Suom Ynona
EDITOR'S NOTE: Ter years ago a retired CLA man
told me of the fartastic games the agency sometimes
played with its men; f-ha*: i s , having a man become
s^'eeped in "-he his'^ory, lifestyles, and mannerisms of
another in an effort to replace him. The games went
to such extremes as to attempt at times to trick even
a mother into believing that the substitute was actually
her son. The story was difficult to take seriously at that
time, but from the CIA capers about which we now know,
we think *-his may very well be true .
Penn Jones
My name as given above, if you haven't guessed already, is ANONYMOUS spelled
backward. If you keep reading, perhaps you'll understand why I do not care to
reveal my true name. Hopefully, my relating an incident from my experience may
shed some measure of understanding upon the agent-double/double-agent hypothesis
of Oswald's involvement in the assassination of JFKo Lee Harvey Oswald and I
were the same ageo We both joined the Marine Corps in 1956 and were both granted
Secret Security Clearances in 1957« Oswald was trained in Radar and Electronics
while I was taught advanced marksmanship, demolitions, escape, evasion
and survival. And while Oswald was supposedly carrying out his defection in
the Soviet Union, I was intensively studying the Russian Language at the Army
Language School in Monterey, California where I recall seeing a Corporal
Osborne (?) who bore a strong resemblance to Oswald as best I can remember.,
I was then transferred to Western Europe where I was quickly absorbed into the
vast military intelligence community, having first been granted a Top Secret
Cryptographic clearance,, If there is any higher security clearance anywhere
in use, I am happily unaware of ito For the greater part of two years I was
engaged in highly sensitive work in which I take great pride, in spite of the
fact that it resulted in one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. It
happened in a little town along the five-kilometer-wide zone dividing East and
West Germany during the time the Berlin wall was being erected. I had been
working in that area for about six months when I was suddenly, in the middle of
the night, whisked away in the back of an Army truck to a town many miles to the
West of the border. I was immediately confined to quarters in the basement of a
large building where one unit of the Army's Counter-intelligence Corps was
headquartered. My room-mate was changed every four hours, and each of them were
armed with .^5 caliber automatic pistols. I received visitors at some of the
oddest hours. No sooner than I would drift off to sleep, when a Captain, Major
or even a Colonel would drop in to ask me the same monotonous questions. Was
it true that I had frequented a certain gasthaus near the Army installation in
that little town? Yes. Did the proprietor of the gasthaus introduce me to a
16-year-old German boy named Helmut? Yes. Did I converse with him often? Yes.
Did I give him the Weather-Station cover story to explain my activity in that
area? Yes. Did he believe it? No way!
Helmut, the inquisitive high-school boy who idolized American Marines, was a
Soviet spy, a 23-year-old veteran of at least 3 years of espionage activity,
suspectea of being an hermaphrodite or possibly a eunuch to account for his
extremely youthful appearance. That was surprise number one. The blockbuster
