Special Agent of the FBI Vincent Drain hand-carried the rifle to Washington
that night and turned it over to the FBI Laboratory during the early morning
hours of November 23, 1963-
In his testimony, Lt. Day continued, "...it (the rifle) was returned to us
on November 2k. Then on November 26 we received instructions to send back to
the FBI everything that we had... The gun was sent back again." (Vol. •+, p. 262)

Lee Harvey Oswald was murdered by Jack Ruby on Sunday morning, November 2^-,
That same day, November 2^th, the FBI returned the rifle to Dallas.
The afternoon edition of the Fort Worth Press, Monday, November 25, 1963,
carried an article about the body of the alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald,
lying linmourned in the morgue, but guarded by as many as eight police officers
plus dog teams. According to the article, no one came to pay respects to the
young man's remains except the FBI with their crime lab kit. The article stated,
"An FBI team, with a camera and a crime lab kit, spent a long time in the morgue.
