Summary	The purpose of this project is to explore how families pass stories from one generation to the next using an important form of domestic art, the quilt. The focus of the project is on the art of the quilt and the process of quilting as forms of communication. It aims to document how quilting changed in the course of the twentieth century with respect not only to styles and techniques, but also to the overall perception of quilts within the American family. Interviews explore how the interviewees learned to quilt, the role of quilting in their families’ lives, and how that role may have changed through the years.
