| Summary | A major tornado struck Waco, Texas, on Monday, 11 May 1953, at approximately 4:35 p.m. The twister traveled in a northeasterly direction touching ground from Fifteenth and Clay, across downtown, and into East Waco. Over half of the 115 people killed were in the blocks bordered by Austin, Franklin, Fourth, and Fifth streets. Property damages totaled 51 million dollars, with 145 persons seriously injured and 925 less seriously harmed. |
